Marine trash isn’t limited to plastic - rubber slippers are frequently found washed ashore or floating in coastal waters. The Tide Rider transforms these discarded slippers into floating keychains by thoroughly scrubbing and sanding each piece. The rubber base is sandwiched between kayak fabric off-cuts shaped like mangrove leaves—a nod to the leaves that host the famous synchronous fireflies of the Abatan River.

Thanks to its buoyant rubber construction, this keychain floats, making it ideal for water activities to keep your valuables safe.

WHAT MAKES IT GOOD?

Project Nova is an initiative by KayakAsia Philippines, an eco-adventure kayak touring company run and managed by local guides. The organization works closely with host communities to offer alternative livelihoods aligned with their core philosophy, including river and coastal guiding, artisanal handcrafting of upcycled gear, and community environmental stewardship programs.

In addition to providing high-value employment to community members, a monthly share of revenue goes directly into a community fund to support locally driven livelihood projects.
